Describe the bug
When copying text in Adobe Illustrator and then pasting the text, it is automatically turned into outlined vectors. Googling the issue a little I found people saying clipboard managers can cause this issue, and sure enough, quitting BTT stops the issue.
This only started yesterday, and I've been using BTT's clipboard manager for years, so I'm assuming it's a very recent change in BTT that's causing the issue.
Device information:
- Type of Mac: iMac / MacBook Pro
- macOS version: 15.1.1
- BetterTouchTool version: 4.929 Alpha
I don't think there has been a relevant change to BTT's clipboard handling. However you could try to disable the BTT clipboard manager for Illustrator

That does prevent BTT from messing up the type, although I like using the clipboard manager for everything, designing included.
I suppose it could be a change in Illustrator that causes this, but I haven't updated Illustrator in weeks and this started right after updating BTT yesterday.
Does it only happen if you paste via BTT's clipboard manager, or does it also happen with normal paste?
Happens with normal paste as well, but only while BTT is also running. (The type doesn't get outlined with normal paste when BTT isn't running.)
Googling for this, it seems like all clipboard manager apps cause this. It seems like just reading the content of the clipboard will change the behavior (which is very weird).
Some people suggest that maybe a setting in Illustrator is causing this (Preferences > Clipboard Handling section).
Unfortunately my illustrator subscription recently ended...
I just went through all the settings in Clipboard Handling (there's only 4 total checkboxes) and messing with them in any combination doesn't fix the bug.
Weirdly, it had been working fine for me for years until yesterday and I really have no idea what would have changed across multiple Macs other than updating BTT on both.
I did just download an older version of BTT from a month ago days ago (4.846) and copying/pasting text in Illustrator with BTT running does still outline the type, so I can't fault BTT for that.
It is indeed very strange and while there are many posts about this online, I can't find any solution that's not "disable your clipboard manager".
Did you maybe change any of BTT's clipboard manager settings? Maybe the "Record concealed or application specific clipboard contents" option?
Haven't changed anything in BTT for like months really, and didn't even know this settings window existed in the clipboard manager window. My settings are the same as yours (other than the first option being checked.) I just messed with the "Default paste option" to see if I could fix it, but no dice.
I'll keep researching and see what I can figure out too. My test downloading an older BTT and still having the issue heavily implies that it's not BTT's fault, so no worries. Thanks for the help!
If you find anything please let me know, very strange issue!
