BTT doesnt start in macOS 10.14 Mojave

I'm also seeing the same issue as @burnsides. This includes the errors, (exception 17, preceded by the same selector signature). However I also get an error:

        AEGetDescData of non-desc type 'reco' not a good idea

This only happens when I launch it from finder directly. When I launch it from terminal with:

/Applications/BetterTouchTool.app/Contents/MacOS/BetterTouchTool ; exit;

It seems to work fine... for some amount of time - it eventually crashed on me - and seemingly did not generate a User Report.

I have also seen it continuously restarting the application itself with those helper tasks (launching an all new process, for a short period showing the icon on the task-bar and then stopping - I had to restart my computer to fix the restart loop), on an instance throwing error -67052.

And to confirm - all of the above happened using 2.514, and I'm not seeing anything in my User Reports (besides errors from before 2.514 - where my crash UUID is 873818BB-5F32-4241-28C7-2C645B55EB78)

did you upgrade your system or did you do a fresh install?
If you upgraded, maybe try to reset BTT by deleting/renaming
~/Library/Preferences/com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool.plist
and
~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool

It would also be helpful if someone could send me the contents of these folders/file to andreas@folivora.ai. They may contain some additional helpful logs.

The exceptions from your logs should all be OK and not be responsible for the issue. It's unfortunate that the crashlog generator apparently fails on 10.14

Removing those files did not resolve the problem unfortunately, but I'll still send you a copy. Let me know if theres anything about my hardware or settings that would be useful to you.

Same here - removing the files didn't help - but I did grab the logs from when the application was continuously relaunching itself. This should contain a full loop or two of the errors - I just copied everything that came up when I filtered for "better".

Setapp doesn't have a beta channel, so at earliest when it's stable and tested.

It would be great if you'd request this feature with Setapp though (a beta channel)

Ok, this one seems to work a lot better, when I first launched it it did not work at all. However after going into the System Preferences and removing the BTT entry from the Accessibility section and re-adding it the application would launch and work smoothly, however the application was previously approved and had a check next to it. (Removing and re-adding the application here was something that I had tried with at least one of the earlier builds - I believe I tried it on 2.514)

Interestingly clicking the check mark for BTT (and some other apps) would not toggle the checkbox at all, after attempting to toggle it twice the application would then continue to launch, however it would not accept any keyboard shortcut triggers (it would also say "There was an issue restarting BetterTouchTool. Please do it manually" upon launching). Even when it is working it gives this same error message when you attempt to "restart" it from the dropdown menu.

In conclusion - the new build works for me if you remove BetterTouchTool from the System Preferences -> Security and Privacy -> Accessibility and re-add it! And it seems like there might be some bugs in System Preferences / access permissions on the MacOS side.

Aha! Thanks for figuring that out. Removing it from the list also just helped another user of my other app BetterSnapTool. Apparently when upgrading macOS didn't correctly copy the Accessibility Permissions (not surprising given that there have been big changes in Mojave).

That makes sense, it's just odd because since upgrading to Mojave I definitely removed and re-added BTT to this list (multiple times), so I think it might be a larger bug than just an issue with copying the permissions during the OS migration

Not to be ungrateful, but i jumped from 2514, to 2515.. Now when I wake my mac up from sleep, it tells me "Could not restart - There was an issue restarting BetterTouchTool. Please do it manually."

But it still works though : )

ah yes as part of the testing process I removed the restart binary because tjat was still 32bit. Will add it back with this next update later. You should be able to use the normal auto update function. Mojave users are automatically put on the alpha channel

Thanks Andreas! Works great with that new version and with removing the Accessibility permission (although I'm not sure the former is necessary because I removed it before trying 2515). I even added back my plist and old application settings and they work fine.

Can someone provide the steps I need to try to get the beta 2515 to work?
I don't have any previous versions installed. And there is no entry for BTT in the system prefs privacy.
I install the 2515 beta and open it, nothing happens. It did re-populate a check box for bettertouchtool in the privacy section, and it is checked.
I use terminal and do "/Applications/BetterTouchTool.app/Contents/MacOS/BetterTouchTool ; exit;"
and it pops up the intro window and tells me how to enable the permissions is system prefs, but is already checked and active. I cannot uncheck and re-check the BTT option in privacy.

Any solution? Thanks!

Try to delete it from the accessibility panel, then start it again.
You may also try one of the later alphas, everything starting with 2.515 works fine: https://bettertouchtool.net/releases/

Hello Andreas, I just purchased a full version and I am on Mojave. Latest Beta. Its not working for me. I am able to open application. everything appears normally, but it seems to not recognize my mouse and none of the taps, gestures, settings work. Can you please help. I am on version 2.536
