BTT data app duplicate

Hello, while looking at BTT app on Storage application I noticed BTT there are 3 files, are they duplicates or?

you can delete the "saved by sparkle" ones

ok how about these two one and the the last one?

these 3 files below are in applications. Why are there 3 “Bettertouchtool” in application

these were not created by BetterTouchTool, maxbe some old backup? but you can delete them as well, only one BetterTouchTool app is needed

Ok thank you so one out of the 3 is “duplicate” as you can see under “kind” so this for sure delete?

Out of the other two, one has 40.3 MB and the other is 34.5 MB. which one should I keep?

you only need the BetterTouchTool.app in your /Applications folder, all others can be deleted. If you are not sure, delete all and download a fresh copy from folivora.ai - Great Tools for your Mac!

Thank you. so my set up/settings and everything won’t be deleted?

So I deleted two of them and left one and then I couldn’t find it when I search on app folder. Then I downloaded a new version and now there is 3 again but the one I downloaded NOW has 151MB wtf

Maybe try to have something like copy ALL when I say ALL I mean all setup/setting/apps including ANY floating menu etc. yes you have Export apps and triggers, but you don’t have ALL floating menus included on that. now I'm missing some floating menus. So we wold be confident for us to delete the COMPLETE app once without worrying if I have to set up somethings again

~150MB sounds correct, maybe I don't really understand the issue. Where do you see the three? Is this some external app that shows it? Maybe some standard macOS artifacts?

There is an export all available via the help menu

yeah but before the last 3 BBT Apps were 45MB, 35MB and 20MB.

I see these when you go to Settings>General>storage>Applications then click on the little icon (!) then it opens a window and shows all apps and their data

mhm the <= 45MB versions must be pretty old - maybe before the apple silicon introduction that was the size of BTT.

The storage view probably shows items from all of the systems Applications folders. There is ~/Applications and /Applications and possible some others (e.g. if you use Setapp there is an additional setapp folder with apps)

//edit: ah it also shows from folders that are not Application folders, e.g. downloads.
When clicking the items in the storage view it shows the full path to them:

OH ok. If I want to delete the App and want a fresh one, do you advise I use apps like “Apple Cleaner” that deletes folder too? or thats not something I should do?

Also pls Add Floating menus to the “Export App and All Triggers to file” As it is right now does this option Export files from ALL appS and ALL triggers? so it can be redownload to a new BTT version?

"Export App And All Triggers To File" will only export the triggers associated with the selected app (including floating menus).

To export everything you need to export your preset(s)

But why would you want Apple Cleaner? Is there a problem that you are trying to solve that would require you to reset everything?

OK. wait I'm confused. so when I want everything I have to do TWO things? ONE: “Export App And All Triggers To File" and Export My presets? Or export the Presets include "Export App And All Triggers To File" ?

Sorry that should have been “App cleaner” not apple cleaner. Well I just asked because I felt there were persistent unessesary files showing up (the 3 files) but now you told me its not part of the app but other files related to BTT

No you just need to export you presets

Or if you just want a backup for safety (not easily importable by others) you can use "Help => Export Full BetterTouchTool Backup As ZIP"

"Export App And All Triggers To File" can e.g. be used if you want to share your configuration for a specific app with someone.

Thank you. So in the future I just Export my preset, delete the app “move to trash” and redownload a fresh one, and just launch my Export preset and all MY Apps, triggers, and floating menus should show up in the new BTT installed?

yes, but most likely you won't even need to do that. Deleting the app will not delete the app's data (which is located in ~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool )

Ok thank you Andreas, thanks for your time.

Last one thing can I email you? about an app that has recently been abandoned and I think it would be a create addition to BTT. I don’t want to say it publicly because there might be an issue with the apps owner or something

sure (andreas@folivora.ai)
