Lately BTT crashes and restarts when I click the button that opens the variables window.
Once it restarts, if I click the button again, everything works fine.
I have downloaded the debug logs that are in the Help menu, I am attaching them here in case you want to take a look.

thanks for reporting! Could you upload the crashlog from the macOS console app's crash report section?
I have two files in the console: one from today and another from 3 days ago.
Today's file is the one that should show the crash after clicking the button for opening the variables window.
The other file maybe shows the same, I don't know.
