BTT cause replayd memory usage to continiously grow

Today I've noticed that the process replayd was consuming ~6GB of my MacBook's memory (MacBook was running for 6 days). So I've restarted my MacBook and replayd memory was back to normal (I guess?) ~6MB at start, until I started BTT, after which the replayd consumed memory started slowly growing. If I quit/stop BTT memory stays at the same level - it doesn't drop back to 6MB but just stays constant. Once I start BTT again it continue to grow and it currently sits at 44.5MB.

I've related the issue to BTT, since only after BTT is stopped then replayd memory stops growing. I have AltTab, BTT and Xnip apps which have the "Screen & System Audio Recording" permissions.

Should I take sample of BTT and send it to you?

BTT: 6.454 and 6.477
macOS: 26.4.1 (25E253)
MacBook: M5 Pro

are you usimg the pin to float on top feature?

BTT can't really change the memory usage of replayd, but macOS shoukd automatically free it if memory goes low.

Are you sure it is not caused by alttab? There is an issue about it in their github High RAM usage from replayd system daemon when thumbnails are enabled · Issue #4194 · lwouis/alt-tab-macos · GitHub

BTT should only use ReplayKit for the pin on top feature

I'm using it whenever I need to, which is rare. This happens right after BTT is started without any triggers being triggered (checked in the "Recenty Used").

Are you sure it is not caused by alttab?

AltTab is not running when I'm doing these tests.

On my MacBook M1 pro running macOS 15.7.5 and BTT: 6.440 this doesn't happen. I can update BTT on that M1 machine if needed?

Every now and then (without triggering Pin to float or OCR) I see this "BetterTouchTool is capturing your screen":

I've disabed the "Notch / Action Menu bar" from BTT's settings and replayd stopped growing.

ah true, the Notch Bar can in some scenarios use replay kit for the statusbar icons. Didn't think about that because it is disabled by default nowadays, but maybe you have tried it in the past.

The general issue seems to be a macOS bug, I'll report it to Apple

Actually I've imported my triggers and settings (or at least this is what I think) from my M1 machine, where I have it disabled, to the new M5 machine and I'm wondering how this can happen? I've tried to check in the logs but they are overwitten. Any other way to check what was imported?

Is there a way to import only the settings?

the Notch Bar stuff is currently not excluded from the settings (so if you had used it on your old machine it might have been enabled) - but that would be a good idea as it is deprecated anyways. I'll add that.

Is there a way to import only the settings since I see that other settings also differ? Can I check what I have imported since I'm pretty sure I've imported both triggers and settings, but maybe I'm wrong?

unfortunately not, BTT just overrides the settings after allowing it on import.

You can reset all settings via this terminal command if btt is quit

defaults delete com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool
