I've been having a strange issue with BTT for the last month or two. I'm on the latest BTT version and latest macOS Tahoe build.
Every now and then BTT seems to completely hang for around 30 seconds.
I usually notice it because suddenly none of my BTT hotkeys/actions work anymore. If I then click the BTT menu bar icon, nothing happens either. Other menu bar apps respond normally, so it seems like BTT itself is stuck.
Then after maybe 20–30 seconds it just comes back to life and everything works again. No restart or force quit needed.
I have a suspicion this might be clipboard related. I use a Windows machine via RDP quite a lot and have clipboard sharing enabled, so I'm regularly copying text between Windows and my Mac. I think I've noticed the BTT hangs around the same time as some of these copy/paste operations, but I haven't managed to reproduce it reliably yet.
What's the best way to debug this?
I saw that running something like this while BTT is hanging might be useful:
sample BetterTouchTool > ~/Desktop/btt.txt
Should I try to run that as soon as I notice the next hang and post the result here? Anything else I should enable/capture, especially something that could show what BTT is doing with the clipboard at that moment?
I can also try running for a while with RDP clipboard sharing disabled and see if the problem disappears.
I've had this for at least a month or two and kept thinking one of the next BTT updates might fix it, but it seems to still be happening.
