Basic Enable / Disable BTT not working

Hi, Iam a very basic user of BTT. I use it to create a bunch of keyboard shortcuts for when I use Adobe Lightroom to edit photos.

I just recently switched from my M1 macbook Pro (with touchbar) to the M2Max Macbook PRO (without a touch bar)

I imported my settings from BTT to the new computer. Everything works except the Enable/Disable BTT toggle I activated when pressing the Esc key. It does nothing now.

So I programmed another keyboard shortcut to enable/disable BTT, but something weird happens: It only works on the first try. Then it stops recognizing the shortcut.

I opened BTT, made sure it was Enabled and working. Then I pressed the keyboard shortcut to Disable BTT and it works. It's disabled. But when I press the shortcut again to Re-enable it, nothing happens.

I restart BTT and now made sure it was Disabled. Press my shortcut and it enables it. Great. But when I press it again, nothing happens.

Whats going on? Do you have any tips?

If BTT is disabled then the shortcut will not be able to reenable it as the shortcut is configured in BTT: (otherwise I'd need to leave the whole keyboard shortcut subsystem enabled)

Oh, that makes sense. How can I make it work as with my old computer? Is there a setting I should be looking for?

Was this a standard ESC key that triggered the enable/disable on your old machine? Or was it a touch bar button?

Standard ESC key

There is a hidden setting that allows keeping the keyboard active - maybe that was active on your old machine? Would that help or do you need to have other shortcuts disabled?

It can be activated using this terminal command while BTT is quit:

defaults write com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool BTTDontDisableKeyboard YES

It didn't work. I experience the same behaviour as before.
