It looks like the described issue was caused by macOS 26 not reporting correctly whether a menubar item is visible or not. I have added some more workarounds in 5.729 alpha which is uploading now.
Hi, I am using this preset, but from time to time, the menu appears in the center of the screen and I donât have a way of putting it back. I have tried deleting the preset, modifying the parameters, nothing fixes it.
I havenât tried yet to uninstall the app and it would avoid doing so if possible.
Anyone is experiencing this as well?
I have MacOS 26 and I am using multi-monitor (if that might have any impact).
Thank you very much!
@Andreas_Hegenberg I add a screenshot to see if you can help to identify what it is going on. Thank you very much!
its amazoing that this is possible!!! but sadly on macos26.2 with version 5.8 of btt its so buggy that i have to uninstall it again - any way of doing so? just deleting the floating menu does not do the trick. i showed all icons - is that it?
Yes, I have also encountered this problem. No matter how I modify the configuration, the floating menu always appears in the center of the screen.
Thanks for replying. It is good to know that it is not just me! Actually it happens to my two MacBooks, exactly the same problem.
I managed to fix it by playing with the resizing options changing values and putting back to the original ones. I would say it is something related to the automatic resizing of the floating menu. But the developer will know better for sure.
Cheers.
After resetting the relevant settings of the status bar through this post, everything returned to normal.
The position of the float menu bar keeps drifting on the screen. However, no matter how you adjust the position settings, they just wonât take effect. Itâs really frustrating that there are so many bugs. Having spent thirty minutes tweaking it, I still got nowhere â it made me look like an idiot.
You can drag the position of a newly added default float menu freely and normally. However, once you add the menu bar status items widget to this float menu, the menu can no longer be moved freelyâeven after you delete the widget, the issue still persists.
hope this issue can be resolved soon.
Maybe I found a fix to the positioning issue.
- Add a standard menu item to the float item
- You can now hold the new added item to drag the float menu to the position you want. Make sure set the position setting to Move Freely.
- Delete the standard menu item
- Click the refresh button to fix some strange size problem. (Not sure)
Thank you for the feedback. Your method can indeed solve the problem that the menu items cannot be dragged. However, I have multiple external monitors and cannot set the position to "free movement"; otherwise, it will only be displayed on a fixed monitor. I still hope that the expert can solve this problem. @Andreas_Hegenberg
I have updated the config to make it better and it will meet what you want.
- set the position on screen to âspecific âŠâ then âAt the Mouse cursor containing Screenâs âŠâ. The float menu will move to the cursor containing screen when you move cursor from one to another.
- I made the drag holder transparent by set the background color of the item to âclearâ, and you can still hold the left part to move the bar.
You can set by yourself or download the modified version I am using.

I found a critical bug that should now be resolved in >= v6.203 (previous version placed items in the "always hidden section" after clicking them on macOS Tahoe.
Iâm using 6.325 and Tahoe 26.4.
Iâm having an issue that when I change the order, it gets re-set, regardless of what it was.
I was going to try the alpha, but I donât see anything in the changelog which might impact it.
Are there still known issues? Itâs great that youâre looking to support this use case =]
Where are you changing the order? (In the BTT UI or directly in the menubar by dragging the items around while holding cmd?)
In the BTT UI. Hereâs a loom. Meant to say, hugely appreciate your work =]
Funny to see Ben from JSON Schema in the BTT forum! The w̶o̶r̶l̶d̶ internet is a small place.
I need to rework the moving a bit, it has been quite shaky since Tahoe (because Apple made it much harder to access the items and match them correctly). Which macOS version are you currently running (it's possible the Tahoe fixes caused other issues on older macOS)?
26.4.
Iâll happily test anything you want to send my way.
It strikes me that having to access screen recording to make this work shows Apple isnât really interested in supporting this use case. Hope you can find a way to make it work =]
I would have expected Apple to finally add proper menubar management with macOS Tahoe, but I guess they postponed that to macOS 27
(the control center already has all the things that would be required for this internally, e.g. dragging status items in and out of the control center to the menubar. They just need to make this work with third party apps)
Screen recording is mostly required to get pictures of the status items. Depending on your use case it might not be required.
