@Andreas_Hegenberg I just updated to 15.2, and I noticed this happen again when opening BTT from Spotlight... but then I tried opening BTT from the Applications folder, and it worked.
I tried Spotlight again, and I noticed that it was actually trying to open "A document being saved by Sparkle." Opening the actual application in Spotlight does open BTT successfully.
Was this also my problem last month, I wonder? I can't be sure. I would have been trying to open it with Spotlight then, too. But I notice that today, I was only getting a single "damaged or incomplete" popup when trying to open BTT, whereas last month I was getting two (see screenshot from my last post).
thanks a lot for that info! It is very possible that this or similar is causing the issue.
There also have been some reports that Sequoia started some invalid locations for Spotlight - and trying to launch apps from there instead of the Application folders.
So if this happens to anybody, please try to directly launch BTT from your applications folder.
I've been having the same issue. Read the whole thread and tried @jackcarter's solution of opening from Applications, and so far (5 minutes in) this seems to solve it for me too.
I have no idea what "Sparkle" means here.
Assuming I have identical issue and the cause is the same, ie that spotlight is opening from Sparkle, what is my plan going forward?
Must I just open manually from applications? Or is there a why to get my mac to open the right application even if I choose it from Spotlight?
My preference is to have BTT launch automatically on Startup. My experience has been that this is usually working but its a bit inconsistent and occasionally BTT crashes or I have to restart it, I typically do this from Spotlight, and then I get the above issue..
If an update fails or the computer crashes while an BTT update is running, the auto-updater BTT uses might leave a folder called (A Document Being Saved By Sparkle) in your applications folder. You can safely delete these folders, afterwards Spotlight should not use the broken item anymore.
Hi Andreas, OP here, this is great news. Can you please un-refund me as I would like to start using the tool again now we have a workaround. I was really missing having a middle mouse button on my magic mouse!
