Window Switcher selects window under mouse

Hi,

I am getting more and more familiar with the BTT Window Switcher and I absolutely love it. Especially the flexibility to configure it to my needs.

To be fair - not sure if this is a "Unexpected Behavior" or a Feature Request, I would say the behavior feels unexpected.

Note:
Tested with BTT 5.756

Describe the bug

  • Opening the WindowSwitcher with a combination of Mouse actions (Hold Thumb Button + Scroll Wheel Down)
  • Move the Selection in the Window Switcher Up/Down (by holding Thumb Button and Scrolling Wheel up/down)

Misbehavior:

  • The window under the mouse is selected by the window switcher when using the Wheel up/down

  • The behavior is only reproducible when you move the mouse from outside the active window switcher to inside and use the action „Move Selection in Active Window Switcher Up“ or use the „On Repeated Trigger: Select Next Window In List“ setting in the action „Show Window Switcher for All Open Apps“.

This is also relevant for the „Show Window Switcher for Active App“.

Wanted Behavior:

  • The Window Switcher does not select the window under the mouse when using the action "Move Selection in Active Window Switcher Up" or "On Repeated Trigger: Select Next Window In List"
  • Maybe an option to deactivate mouse activation completely to the Window Switcher could be an solution?

Affected input device (e.g. MacBook Trackpad, Magic Mouse/Trackpad, Touch Bar, etc.):

  • Tested with mouse
  • If I open the Window Switcher via Keyboard, the highlight of the window switcher follows the mouse

  • macOS version: 26.1
  • BetterTouchTool version: 5.756

ah yes, I'll think about a way to better handle this!

Thank you Andreas - you are great. :+1:

Hi Andreas,
in the latest versions of BTT the Window Switcher (even when opened via mouse trigger - in my case: hold of thumb button + scroll down) is sensitive to the mouse.

This leads to the effect that, if my mouse is inside the area of the Window switcher, it's selecting the window below the mouse. The video shows a glimpse of the behavior.

My usecase is to scroll through the windows with the mouse-wheel once the window switcher is opened.

Any chance to deactivate the automatic mouse selection for the window switcher? Of course I could not open the window switcher in the center of the screen but rather next to the mouse - but I like to know where I need to look at to see the window switcher.

In a first step 5.790 adds an option to disable selection by hover:

I have some more ideas (e.g. optionally add selection by scrolling), I'll get to that soon.

Nice, thank you Andreas - I'll give it a try next week. I will be relocating tomorrow, hope the Internet works soon at my new place.

@Andreas_Hegenberg Wow, selection by scrolling will be very useful. Currently, I am adding scroll up and down to up and down arrows to scroll when the Switcher is active to replicate the same behavior. However, adding this feature natively would be amazing. I’m looking forward to it.

Works perfectly so far - thank you very much Andreas.
