# WebView - how to get the floating menu window focused ?

Hallo,

when I load my Webview the window itself does not get **focused** / is selected.  
(see screen)

I need to _mouse left-click_ somewhere inside to get that focus.  
If I do **not** do that all editor commands like CMD+N will go to Finder (or BTT itself) and not to my Editor.

I have tested that with other simpler Webviews - same issue - the window is not focused (so it is not related to the Code Mirror editor...)

somehow I fail to find a way to fix that.  
Any hints would be welcome...

You can control the window focus via the action:

However that doesn't necessarily focus your text fields. You could e.g. add the html autofocus attribute to that

If you'd rather set the focus on the menu-level you can also do that:

Thanks Andreas,

I have used now a simple WebView (display only text) for testing.  
and it did not work...

maybe there is an issue with window levels ?

no, most likely you just don't have something that can focus automatically.

For example try this, it should automatically focus:

```auto
<textarea autofocus id="focusTextArea" rows="4" cols="50" placeholder="Enter your text here..."></textarea>

```

You can also press the tab key to check whether your menu has focus

I tried your menu, but it focuses fine here once i add a focusable element (or tab through the items). However the window buttons don't always get colored in floating menus, this is hard to solve, but doesn't matter for keyboard focus

that focuses the textarea, it is fine

is there a reason you need this? It'd require a different window behavior, which doesn't work for most other floating menu use cases and is pretty specific

It should only affect the color of the window buttons or does it do something else in your case?

Yes, if that webview is not focused in that way, a keyboard shortcut like cmd+n will not go to editor, but to the finder or BTT.  
I will check tomorrow with GPT…but the workaround works…

mhh I don't think that's possible because if the text area gets focus it means the BTT / the floating menu has keyboard focus

I also tried by loading some more complex editors like [https://codepen.io/pen/](https://codepen.io/pen/) which also seems to get keyboard focus fine here (typing text, cmd+a etc.)

cmd+n and other BTT shortcuts will in general be problematic because the floating windows don't have their own menubar, they use the same as BTT does when focused. Maybe this is something that I could look into.

I fixed some focus related things in 5.460 alpha, maybe that also helps in you case!
