Warning about BTT SSL Certificate in Spotify???

Describe the bug

I opened Spotify and a strange message about allowing an SSL certificate from BetterTouchTool named ”BetterTouchToolRemote_New”. I have been using both for years and this is first time I’ve seen this. Anyone knows what’s going on? Could the SSL certificate be compromised?

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: Macbook Pro M4 Max
  • macOS version: 15.7.1 (24G231)
  • BetterTouchTool version: 6.325

Additional information (e.g. crash logs, related issues, etc.):

This is not really stopping me from using Spotify, but it’s concerning, so I figured I should report it, in case your SSL certificate got compromised somehow

This is unrelated to the BTT certificate. macOS shows this dialog if the server spotify tries to connect to requests a client side certificate - and BTT's is the only one you have installed (but of course it will not work for this as it is only used to secure potential BTT Remote connections).

So there seems to be something very wrong with your connection because Spotify should not requests a client side certificate, but it is unrelated to BTT. Did you recently install some software that tries to monitor your network traffic? Maybe some ad blocker that works on network level?

No, I did not. Not unless my router suddenly decided to block spotify traffic. In any case, I will close this ticket as this is unrelated to BTT itself. Thanks for the fast reply.

It seems to be a Spotify bug:
