Using a single letter as shortcut, letter is blocked in text input

Hello,

I'm a beginner with BTT.

I wanted to create shortcuts for my Ableton Live DAW with just a single letter (for example "u").

But when I want to rename a file in Ableton Live & type in a word like "Sub" - the "u" is blocked.

Can anybody help me what I've to do to resolve this problem, please ?!

It’s important to me to use just a single letter for certain shortcuts. I know I could add "Command" as a modifier, for instance, but for now, I’d prefer to stick to just one letter.
I’ve also tried entering commands in the advanced settings to work around this issue, but nothing has worked so far.
Thanks, and have a relaxed start into this weekend,
Alex

I'm not 100% how can you achieve this, but you can search here in the community/forum I'm pretty sure that @Frank1 explained somewhere something similar.

thanks so much, xidiot

I´m using Keyboard Sequence till now (typing a letter fast two times).

I´ll go to the post of @Frank1, maybe I'll find a better solution there than using a keyboard sequence command.

have a nice evening

I think you will rather need to search for advanced trigger conditions that would allow you to target only the daw area, but this can get complicated.

Maybe only enabling the single letter shortcut’s while the mouse is hovering specific areas?

thanks, Andreas

The keyboard shortcuts for individual letters should be active regardless of the mouse pointer's position. However, if I am typing a word that contains a letter I have assigned as a shortcut, the shortcut for that letter should not trigger.

I also tried advanced trigger conditions, but nothing worked.

Also I heard that there´s a command in BTT ("Trigger only if no text field is focused") - but I can´t find it anywhere.

I also read that this may be not a problem with BTT but rather that the Ableton program is blocking (commands in the advanced settings like "focused element role is AXTextField")

@Ben_Fr Single-key triggers are the best invention since the perpetual motion machine. Just kidding. They work, but only under certain conditions.

I don’t know Ableton Live DAW. But the first and simplest thing I’d try if I were you is a short/long press action.

That means the letter “U” is typed when you tap the key briefly. If you hold down “U” longer, a different action is triggered. These triggers don’t require any additional conditions.

I could explain why this isn’t ideal for everyone, but just give it a try. Maybe this solution will work well for you.

Hi Frank,

oh yes, holding down a key longer is the best alternative right now, thanks a lot
