I’m trying to set up a steelseries sensei raw gaming mouse (under macOS Tahoe) and can’t seem to find out how. Clicking the (extra, non-standard) buttons (such as a small button next to the scroll wheel) I want to assign an action to (on Click / Scroll to Record) does nothing (as opposed to clicking one of the standard buttons). Is there a way that I do not see? (Needless to say I’ll be happy to watch any tutorial that actually addresses this issue—I watched all I could find that somehow seemed to relate to the topic, to no avail.)
BetterTouchTool currently only supports either Logitech mice or mice that send standard mouse button codes. If your mouse uses a custom protocol the only way to use it with BTT would be to create a generic device analyzer script (advanced, requires coding): Generic Devices | BetterTouchTool Documentation
You could use the seelseries software and make it trigger events that can be recognized in BTT (e.g. standard mouse button events, keyboard shortcuts, apple scripts etc.)
Thanks Andreas and Jpac for your swift replies, much appreciated. The mouse is a sensei raw frost blue, model number M-00001. I’ll certainly look into the script Andreas linked to if no simpler means are available, yet with limited time, I’d be glad if there was another way as Jpac indicated. How did you go about it? Maybe I simply didn’t understand the process.
Ah, I just saw that it's a mouse that's over 10 years old. I didn’t know it. Steelseries has probably updated its implementation and firmware since then, so I don't have any tip to tell you
