Safari tab-switching via gestures not working

I got a new Mac and now cannot switch tabs with a four-finger swipe left/right. Safari reloads the webpage I'm currently on instead of swiping to an adjacent one, displaying the message "This webpage was reloaded because a problem occurred." If I try swiping again the page displays a message indicating repeated problems with the webpage:

I'm using a 2019 Macbook Pro running Mojave 10.14.6 and BTT is version 3.186.

I figured out how to get it to work. You have make it a global setting and you can't send the shortcut to Safari.

It seems to work fine here assigning directly to Safari:

(either using the predefined action "Trigger Menubar Menu Item" or assigning the appropriate shortcut)

Thanks Andreas, yours is a better solution. It didn't occur to me that they were menubar items.
