Rotating for volume on M1 Macbook Pro isn't smooth

I'm on a 2021 M1 MacBook Pro running Monterey v12.3.

I previously had a 2019 MacBook Pro and had it set up so that rotating left/right would trigger volume up/down in small steps and I added "spring" haptic feedback.

It felt great and there was no stutter when I would rotate– just buttery smooth. I could also get the volume at least halfway all the way up/down in a single rotation.

I'm trying to set it up again and it's just not the same. When I rotate I feel the vibrations, but it's not one smooth, continuous vibration, but rather multiple short, choppy vibrations every time the actions is triggered.

I also can only get it to do at most 2 or 3 volume "blocks" for every rotation I do.

I've tried fiddling with the trackpad rotation settings and degrees and whatnot but it's not helping.

Anyone know how to optimize this so I can get my smooth volume knob back? It's a huge part of why I even own a Mac at all anymore.

SOLVED

It was the "spring feedback" that was causing the choppiness. I switched it to "light feedback" and it's buttery smooth again.
