Hi there. I noticed that the new update now has “AI”. Is this disabled by default? Is there a BTT version w/o ‘AI’? I really don’t want any AI, but it’s leeching in everywhere.
thanks

it is fully disabled by default and you'd need to explicitly enable it by providing your own API key for some Ai provider. I don't offer any AI services myself.
There have been AI features in BTT for ~2 years, so you'd to go back quite a bit to get a version without AI ![]()
thanks for the info! I appreciate it. and I understand there are some “ai” features. I’m more concerned with the 2025 version of AI, which is autocomplete and scraping for the oligarchy. ![]()
with recent Macbook Pro's there are quite some options for local / open weight LLMs that can be used with BTT in case you are concerned about privacy / sending your data to external companies.
I found Apple Intelligence useless. @Andreas_Hegenberg Do you have any personal privacy concerns about AI? I've been using ChatGPT with BTT for a while, and it saves me a lot of time, but should I be concerned?
sure, “they” have access to everything you type in there. And that most likely doesn’t only include the AI companies but also government agencies.
Damn, I’ve sent a bunch of sensitive data/screenshots.
Thanks! I will be more careful with what I send to GPT. :))
I recommend LM Studio or Ollama to run local models. You can also spin up a local server so you can query your local LLM using the same API as OpenAI's chat completions.
currently for me the biggest problem with local LLMs on Apple Silicon is the prompt processing speed, which is especially noticeable with large contexts. Apparently that will soon be a solved issue as the new A19 Pro in the iPhone 17 Pro adds "matmul acceleration" which apparently is similar / equivalent to the tensor cores from Nvidia. It is safe to assume that these will also be available in Apple's M5 chips - so soon time for another upgrade ![]()
