No UI on MacOs Tahoe

Hi,

I’m using BetterTouchTool on macOS Tahoe (v13) with a license from 2018. Since the latest update, the configuration window won’t open — the app runs but no UI appears.

I’ve tried:

  • Reinstalling the latest Tahoe-compatible version

  • Granting all necessary permissions (Accessibility, Screen Recording, Automation)

  • Running the AppleScript command to open prefs, but get a syntax error:
syntax error: A “"” cannot go after an identifier. (-2740)

  • Escaping quotes in AppleScript — same error

  • Simulating Cmd+, shortcut to open prefs — app activates but no window shows

Is there a patched version for Tahoe or another way to open the config window? Thanks!

I’m here too, and I can’t open BTT through the menu’s Configuration item—clicking it does nothing. I was able to open the app with the AppleScript shared here, so thank you.

I will add that it’s not just BTT that I’m having this issue with, which leads me to believe this is an issue with the OS. Another app I use, CleanShot X, also depends on its menubar menu to access it and upgrade it, but clicking its menu items does nothing. Same with BlockBlock, PixelSnap, Rectangle, and Apple’s own keyboard settings menu. If it’s not the OS then it’s some disagreement between apps.

Maybe some menubar mangement app like Bartender is interfering?

Note: I do not test older versions of BTT on current macOS versions. There are definitely various older versions of BTT that are broken on Tahoe, but the latest versions should all work fine.

Not in my case but I appreciate your reply. Maybe it’s the new menu bar management feature at the system level.

can you access the other app’s menubar items if you quit BTT?

Same issue - Can’t open the configuration window when I click on it (something I do frequently).

EDIT: After updating - I ran that terminal command and it opens the configuration pane but that shouldn’t be how it works every time, right clicking the icon and clicking configuration should work

There have been various tahoe related improvements in the recent versions during the last few days. If some of you are still experience this, try version 5.666!

Menu bar items remain accessible, and the menus appear when clicked. However, options from the menu, when clicked, result in no other action than the menu closing, regardless of whether BTT is active or quit.

I’ve used the Menu Bar preference pane in Tahoe to hide items. Of the ones currently displayed, BTT, CleanShot X and Tailscale have this symptom. Mac native Sound and Weather do not, and clicking their respective menu items launches their applications.

I’ve tried enabling all the menu bar items in the preference pane as a way to disable that feature if it had an issue, but that did nothing either.

EDIT: I installed 5.666 after reading your note. Same experience—it's some issue with the OS. I'm certain.
