MIDI to Key stroke

Hi. I'm new to this forum.

I'm looking to replace 'midi stroke', which is old Mac software which some of you might be familiar with. The program basically allowed you to turn midi commands into key strokes.

I'm wondering if anyone here is familiar with the process of doing something similar with BetterTouch, and whether you'd be willing to share the process of setting up a midi input to trigger the 'space' key inside a Mac? I use Ableton live, and it's just a simple way to turn a midi button into a stop/play button.

Thanks so much

Screenshot shows sending up arrow keystroke via midi note

Use the MIDI Triggers menu (top left of screen)
Click plus icon in left pane to create a trigger
Press your midi controller button
Use "autoconfigure using last midi event" (mid of right pane)
Click the plus icon (middle pane)
Choose send shortcut to specific app...
In record shortcut box press spacebar
Select which app receives the shortcut

Ableton and BTT is great combo.

Hi Dave,

For some reason I didn't get a notification showing your reply. My apologies for the slow response! This is super helpful! Thanks so much.

Best

BTT works fine for doing basic midi communication.

In the case you need a more powerful midi app the best option is Midi Translator Pro, from Bome software.

Cool. Dave's suggestion worked like a charm, but I'll definitely check it out. Thanks
