Hyper key doesn't work (just enables/disables caps lock)

I just saw on Brett Terpstra's site that BTT supports capslock as a hyper key. Hooray!

Unfortunately, I cannot seem to get it to work. I've tried mapping capslock as a hyper key but all I get when I press capslock is the original capslock function.

I'm trying to trigger a Keyboard Maestro macro and set the ones that uses hyperkeys to "on release" instead of "on press" but nothing works.

Does anyone have any troubleshooting steps or things I can check to get this working?

does it work with shortcuts defined in BTT?

Neither of those keyboard shortcuts work.

That said, even holding down the hyper keys separately doesn't seem to work - the shift+control+option+command+5 keyboard shortcut doesn't open the finder. Can I send you any troubleshooting details?
