how to select menubar item

Hi guys,
Is there a way to click on the submenu of an app in the menubar? For example, BTT's looking for updates-menu.

I already created scripts to only looking for updates in different apps. I activate them from the shortcuts app. But I don't know how to achieve the looking for updates menu with BTT.
Just in case you wonder, here is a screenshot of the menu item I want to activate.

If BTT is in front, this should work

I already found that, but you have to bring BTT into the front for this to work.
Is there any other way where BTT doesn't need to be in front?
