Full screen window resizing

Hi. someone on reddit directed me over here. I am a new macos user. I bought btt and better snap tool. I

am trying to figure out a way to make window snapping work with full screen windows.

I find that if i have window snapping via keyboard shortcuts, that they dont work on full screen windows. I tried to set the use classic bettersnap tool resizing but that didnt seem to make a difference. I really hate and am trying to avoid having to click the green stoplight in order to take further action on a window. What am i doing wrong?

Also, i understand that BTT has the functions of better snap tool but im not sure what that means. For example the menuing in snap tool is different and seems easier for a beginner to grasp whereas BTT seems like a macro engine. Is it ok to have both installed?

I am not sure I fully understand. If a window is full screen, macOS does not allow to arbitrarily resize it. If you need to resize windows best just maximize them - do not enter fullscreen.Maximized windows can be resized in any way you like, but full screen is quite special on macOS (basically a full screen window is moved to a separate space)

I would recommend to only have BTT or BST running (although it shouldn’t cause issues to have both on)

macOS "does not allow" ...to resize it? really? why not? cant every other type of window be resized through tools like this? Are you saying that full screen windows are somehow an off limits thing which can never be manipulated? Do not enter full screen? windows accidentially go into fullscreen when i open them. This seems like a pretty dumb aspect of the macos. Windows does not have this problem.

correct, full screen is literally full screen. This is very intentional by Apple.

There is "Full Screen Tile" that allows you to add one more window to the full screen space, but that is basically it

I don't think this is dumb, it's just a feature of macOS. If you do not want to use this full screen mode, you could override it using BTT (e.g. so that clicking the green window button does not enter full screen but instead makes the window maximize)

thanks - maybe that is what i need to learn to do - override the green button. is there a tutorial i can view or instructions for that?

There are multiple ways, but I'd try it like this:

option clicking the green button maximizes windows instead of making them fullscreen, so assigning the option+click action to the "leftclick green window button" trigger will prevent the fullscreen.

thank you very much!
