My MacBook Pro died suddenly on me recently. I have bought a new one but rather than just restore the new one from the old one I decided it was a good opportunity for a clean rebuild. I have installed BTT but need to find the file in the old Mac backup to import the presets. Can someone point me to where to find it please?
Bump?
This is the folder you'd need to copy:
~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool
(~ is your user directory. The Library folder is hidden by default)
Thanks Andreas
I found the folder on my new Mac but when I go into Time Machine for the backup the Library folder has a red "No Entry" icon on the bottom right. If you open it it is empty. Is there a different method needed to open a hidden folder from a Time Machine backup do you know?
that’s probably the system library folder, you need the one in your user folder
No, it is the one in my user folder.
unfortunately I haven’t seen that before, on my backups the Library folder can be accessed like any other ;-(
Usually the red sign means your current user doesn’t have access, I think macOS should ask for your old users password then - but I’m not sure
