Escape key randomly shows after waking up

Describe the bug
Every so often after waking up from sleep, the software escape key shows on the BTT touchbar even though it shouldn't show up on the MacBook Pro 16 inch model. This doesn't reproduce every time after sleep; however, it usually shows after its been sleeping for some time, not just opening and closing it for a minute.

Affected input device (e.g. MacBook Trackpad, Magic Mouse/Trackpad, Touch Bar, etc.):
MacBook Pro 16 inch touch bar

Device information:

  • Type of Mac: MacBook Pro 2019 16 inch (MacBookPro16,1)
  • macOS version: 10.15.2
  • BetterTouchTool version: 3.220 (1397)

I have the exact same issue. I haven't been able to determine how to 100% consistently reproduce it, but it usually happens when the machine has been sleeping for more than a few hours. Then, restarting BTT is the only way I can figure out to get rid of the unwanted escape button.

  • MacBook Pro 2019 16 inch (MacBookPro16,1)
  • macOS 10.15.2
  • BTT version 3.286 (1463)

Do you use a Touch Bar simulator app?

Anyways you should be able to prevent that from happening with this terminal command:

defaults write com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool BTTShowESCWhenControlStripHidden NO
