Describe the bug
I love this tool, however there is a bug that really prevents me from using it properly. I cannot use the escape key with Synergy (https://symless.com/synergy), which is a tool that forwards all keystrokes to another computer. I always use my macbook in combination with a Windows machine.
The escape key seems to register fine in Synergy (because I can press the escape key and map it to something else within its menu), but whenever the escape key is pressed it does not get forwarded to the other computer at all. It works fine with the default TouchBar, however.
Any idea what could be going on or how I could fix this?

I already set up a workaround so I can press control+option to return the standard touchbar, but it is a bit annoying to have to press control+option+escape instead of just escape, I also do not want to remap the caps lock key.
