Would it be possible to enable/disable a specific Focus mode in BTT? I don’t see such an action available, and according to chatbots there is most likely no public API for this, so I’m expecting a negative answer. I know I can create a toggle in Apple Shortcuts and then trigger that shortcut from BTT. That’s how I have it set up now, but it feels like a rather silly intermediate step.

I didn’t see it, but looking at it now, you’ve basically just created a more complex version of the setup I use. The only difference is that I activate the Focus modes individually via Apple Shortcuts, because I have them permanently tied to other actions like opening apps, moving windows, etc.
What I was more interested in was whether Focus modes can be changed directly via the shell, or only through the Apple Shortcuts integration. On top of that, at least for me, Shortcuts aren’t 100% reliable and sometimes it takes the system a while to activate them.
unfortunately I think the Shortcuts route is the only usable one. AFAIK the private APIs for this are protected and can not be used without disabling SIP.
