CONTINUES crashing and unstable on wake from sleep

I am working on 10.15.5 (19F96)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
3.5 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM

Current BTT is alpha 3.375 (1599).

I noticed this issue on previous non-alpha builds as well, but issue persists on current build. I am also on the beta testing for macOS so initial thought was something in the pre-release build of macOS was causing an issue, but since the problem occurs on the final release of 10.15.5 I believe it is with BTT.

Often when raising the display as the computer wakes from sleep the BTT icon is gone from the menu bar and the system becomes sluggish and quite non responsive. Anything related to BTT doesn't work. Even keyboard settings for dashboard, NC, and launchpad don't work, even though they are set up via system pref. After a while (less than 30 seconds) BTT seems up and running again and everything works as expected.

I have a wireless logitech mx anywhere 2 connected to my external apple USB keyboard via receiver.

this is the info from system log

The following screenshots from console show the last time BTT crashed on wake from sleep

BetterTouchTool.log.zip (1.1 KB)

This continues to happen on the most recent alpha build, 3.378 (1601).

Continues to happen, first time in over a week, but still happens. Upon opening lid and waking my macbook pro everything was working slowly (what normally happens during this crash/bug) and BTT was not in the tool bar at the top of the screen. Once BTT reopened computer was back up to speed and BTT worked again. It would be nice to get some feedback on this issue since it continues to be experienced. Are there other reports I can provide or info I can share?

I meant to add, I am build 3.390 / build 1613 of BTT.

From the logs you posted I can't see any BTT crash but possibly you have this option enabled?:

I also don't see anything that would indicate BTT is the cause of the slowness you encounter. Have you tried to completely quit BTT for a few days and see whether this still happens?

I don't have that setting checked, the attached file shows what my settings look like in that domain. Initially I was hesitant to report it when I first started noticing it as I often run beta and developer seeds on my machine. However I have noticed the same behavior coming from BTT when waking from sleep on beta, developer, and final public releases. At the moment I am on macOS 10.15.6 beta, but given that it also happened on the 15.5 public release I don't think this is at all related to beta software. It has carried over on at least 3 OS builds so far.

Is there a way to send you a sysdiagnose that I trigger when the crash happens again? The last time I tried to upload that file it was too large for the forum here.

I rely heavily on BTT so going a while without using it will be tough. If I can remember I'll try to quit before putting computer to sleep and then relaunch after woken up and up to speed.

Something is clearing causing BTT to crash when waking from sleep, perhaps the slowdown is an effect or something unrelated happening at the same time, but they do seem to be tied together.

Possibly try to export the debug info via BTT's main menu and send them to me (andreas@folivora.ai):

However these logs don't necessarily show crashes:

May 29 02:11:44 mallaidh com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.hegenberg.BetterTouchTool.55952[2374]): Service exited due to SIGTERM | sent by BTTRelaunch[2388]
May 29 02:12:03 mallaidh com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.hegenberg.BTTRelaunch.53224[2388]): Service exited due to SIGTERM | sent by BetterTouchTool[2413]

They show that BTT is relaunching itself for some reason. This can happen if the system is unresponsive (BTT checks from time to time whether everything is working fast enough, if not it does restart itself), it could also happen after a BTT crash, however then you'd see BTT crashlogs in the macOS console app. Could you check whether there are crashes in the console app under "Crash Reports"?

There are no crash reports. There are two recent spin logs/reports though...attached. I am also attaching the diagnostic debug file in archive format. Next time it craps out again I'll get the most recent files and upload.Archive.zip (161.5 KB) spin logs.zip (359.0 KB)

happened just a moment ago, here are the diagnostics and the spin dump

unfortunately the spin dump seems to be just a filesystem link, could you upload the real file?

no, unfortunately. Like everything else this morning nothing is working as expected :frowning: like a donkey I cleared out a bunch of files after I sent the reports and didn't realize it was a link vs the real filed. No spin dumps exist right now. I'll have to send one again after the issue happens again. Sorry. That's been my day today...

@Andreas_Hegenberg I seem to be getting a lot of crashes / app restarts recently. I am attaching logs. Seems to happen most when trying to adjust volume / brightness using the multi finger gestures within @GoldenChaos preset. BetterTouchToolDebug.zip (2.1 MB)

log and two spin dumps from the most recent crash/problem

Thanks these are helpful!

I think this might be related to the experimental Dropbox / iCloud sync. I'd try to disable that for now. (I'm working on a replacement for it)

I have moved on up to Big Sur, so I am cautious on too many reports being a beta OS version, but the issue continues to happen v3.392 (1616), I have disabled sync (to iCloud). Just an FYI since I won't really be tracking this on my current OS build.

I'm having the same issue with Catalina 10.15.5
Macbook Pro 13", 2020

I use Mac in camshell mode. Whenever I reconnect and come out from sleep, BTT stops working. It doesn't crash. Stays active on menu bar. Have to restart BTT to make it work again.

Same issue, waking up my machine several times a night
this log comes right after mac woke up.
I'll try to live with BTT off for a day
