I am trying to implement a "click through option." Basically if I have Chrome window and it's not active but still visible on screen, and if I see a link there and click on it, it doesn't work with a single click - first click activates Chrome and then I need to click on the link itself.

A simple (and incorrect) solution is to add a 1 Finger tap trigger and Activate window under cursor and Left click. However that has unintended consequences when working with the active window - as it receves 2 taps (well, one tap and one click).

So is there a way to check whether the window under cursor is already active and skip its activation altogether?

Have you found a solution for this eventually?

I kinda found a workaround - not a solution. My need for a click through was a lot of copy pasting from one window to another. So I basically changed the tasks from “how do I get the edit field under cursor active to paste” to “how do i paste it in as few actions.” So I basically created a touchpad shortcut where on 3-finger tap it would 2x left mouse button click and then do cmd+A and cmd+V.

Just a note, also not a solution - macOS allows to interact with inactive windows by holding cmd while clicking. So clicking a link in an inactive chrome window while holding cmd, would work immediately - without activating the window.

This is a powerful macOS feature in many situations

yeah it just acts weirdly. I guess a better option is opt+shift+click - that’s almost gets me what I want. I just need to figure out how to remap that weird opt+shift to something more palatable 🙂
