It's been years of up and down with the iPhone app. It worked at first, then stopped for many years. A few months ago it worked briefly, and now it's back to not working again. My Mac just doesn’t show up in the app.
BTT Remote: BTT on 6.194. The iPhone app Troubleshooting link ends up at a 404. Entering in my IP and port manually don’t work.
I just updated to 6.195 and downloaded the new BTT Mobile app, and still nothing.
I really have no idea what to do to make this thing work reliably. Any help would be appreciated.
in 99% of such cases a firewall or broken router config is interfering. The new BTT Mobile can even use peer to peer connections - if that also doesn't work it must be a firewall issue.
Thanks for the reply. I wanted to upload screenshots with my initial post but didn’t see how to, but I do now.
My Mac’s firewall is off, and p2p is enabled.
And like I mentioned, functionality has been intermittent, definitely not correlated to any of the very few changes I make on my computer’s overall configuration.
What kind of wifi router are you using?
The problem with the P2P setting is, iOS will only connect via P2P if the iPhone is not connected to the same wifi (or not connected to any wifi at all). This would be good for testing but probably won't solve your issue
If you don't have a firewall it is most likely a router config issue.
hotspot can help but is sometimes tricky, what should work is disconnecting the phone from your wifi and then connect (only works with BTT Mobile, not with the old BTT remote).
One other thing you could try:
In the iOS App Store is a free app called "Discovery - DNS-SD Browser", this will list all bonjour advertisements in your currently connected network. Does this show anything for you? For BTT Mobile and BTT Remote it should show these two entries:
I had previously thought about trying to do a fresh install of BTT but I’m not sure which files I’d need to keep to retain my shortcuts. Should I give this a try?
After one update or another MacOS kept asking me if I wanted to allow local network permissions for all these different apps and I was like “I have no idea what that’s for, I’m just going to deny access”.
I can only imagine other users might have had the same response. This would be a very useful thing to put on the Troubleshooting page you link to from the app.
Trying to troubleshoot BTT remote. After the recent main app updates, was no longer seeing the floating menus list, only whatever app was active in Macos was listed.
Came here for ideas and saw in local network that it was enabled. Figured maybe disabling it might help. But not seeing a way to re-enable it.
Any ideas to re-enable the local permissions and also troubleshoot the mobile app refusal to list?
