Can BetterTouchTool replicate my current mouse setup on macOS

Hi everyone,

I'm considering switching to macOS and looking into using BetterTouchTool. I don't have a Mac yet, but I wanted to check something before making the move.

I have a 5-button mouse, and according to ChatGPT, BetterTouchTool supports this kind of mouse for customization. Could you confirm that BetterTouchTool can replicate the following setup that I currently use on Windows (with X-Mouse Button Control):

Here’s what I have for each button, based on clicks and press-and-hold actions:

  1. Right Click Button:
  • Click: Right-click (default).
  • Hold for 250ms: Back (navigate back).
  • Hold for 600ms: Forward (navigate forward).
  1. Middle Button (Scroll Wheel Click):
  • Hold for 150ms: Fullscreen mode (F11 equivalent).
  • Hold for 800ms: Close active window (Alt+F4 equivalent).
  • Click = default.
  1. Side Button 1 (Normally "Back" without customization):
  • Click: Minimize active window.
  • Hold for 150ms: Activate Windows key (I assume this would be Command key on macOS).
  • Hold for 800ms: Print Screen.
  1. Side Button 2 (Normally "Forward" without customization):
  • Click: Alt-Tab (the macOS equivalent of a "still" Alt-Tab, which I believe is Mission Control).
  • Hold for150ms: Play/Pause media.
  • Hold for 600ms Close tab (a web browser tab).

Can BetterTouchTool handle this setup, especially the press-and-hold durations for different actions?

I hope it doesn't look weird, but mouse customizations are so important to me and I am really use to having them.

Thanks in advance for the help!

You inspired me to explore the right-click return settings by pressing and holding the right mouse button, something I hadn't tried before.

Yes, it’s possible. I tried the first example with a right click, and I was able to set it up as you requested. The others should also be doable since the intervals are customizable, and BTT can handle all those actions.

That said, it’s definitely an unusual way to interact. I don’t think my brain or fingers are sensitive enough to consistently estimate the correct hold duration. I’d probably get used to it over time, but it does feel quite unconventional. :grinning:

Which shortcut key did you bind the return action to?

After setting the right mouse button to trigger the drawing gesture, the operation of long-pressing the right button does not work. Can we add a long-press gesture for the right mouse button? @Andreas_Hegenberg
