I find the keyboard shortcuts very powerful but the defaults are almost all off.
I think new users would see more of the power of the app if you had a few set.
I use Cmd+Option+T for the top half and Cmd+Option+B for the bottom half.
While they aren't perfect for all languages, they are pretty reasonable and T is above B so they are natural.
