BTT Clipboard Manager Development & Wishlist

I think I found the issue - and also why I can not reproduce it here.

It is related to the app search functionality, you probably have an app running (or had it running in the past) that matches the vpn search, which confuses BTT. I’ll fix that.

Should hopefully be resolved in 5.657 (uploading now)

Thank Andreas. I would love to test, but I'm afraid of the following BTT crashing in Sequoia

you mean it is crashing for you? (if not, there are currently >40k instances running on macOS 15.7, the issue discussed im this thread is something very specific and most likely woukd also affect the version you are currently running)

It is not crashing, but I'm afraid to not start crashing since I'm on macOS 15.5 (24F74) and I'll have to upgrade to 15.7 soon. In the thread I've saw that the user started facing this after upgrade to 5.629 and issue was not fixed for the user on macOS 15.7 and BTT 5.632.

I would not worry about that - downgrading is always possible and as mentioned there are many thousands of people running the current BTT builds on 15.7 (and of course it is also running fine on my Sequoia test machines)

If you want to be super safe create a backup of ~/Library/Application Support/BetterTouchTool first

(Also the user mentioned upgrading from 5.625 to 5.629 did not solve the issue, not that it started by updating)

Thanks Andreas! I've just upgraded, no crashes so far (hopefully never :D). The "vpn" items are now found! Thank you!

Will you have time to check the following? - if I open CM and immediately press down arrow 2nd item is select for some milliseconds and then the selection is reverted back to the 1st item. If I do not press it immediately after CM is open - no issues. I use this quite often, since I know that the second item is the one I need and I want to copy it quickly but I'm not fast enough

Andreas, is it expected filtering by app to work without app: ? e.g.

This is valid for all apps. Good thing is that if the string/name of the app is copied from another app, it is still shown.

yes this is expected - only if app: is added it will exclusively show stuff from that app

I have the default paste option set to plaintext and when I select a clipboard item to paste by double clicking on it, it works perfect. Same if I press the enter button on my keyboard after triggering the clipboard manager.

But if I trigger the clipboard manager and then select a clipboard item to paste by pressing command-1, the item is pasted with formatting, not as plaintext.

Is this expected? Is there someway to change this behavior?

these shortcuts are configured in the dedicated "Clipboard Manager" CAG:

There you can also modify them if you want to

Despite the "Prevent duplicates", duplicates are created when copying from TextMate:

This is the the only app so far I've encountered this, test with few others - no issue

CM's settings:

Since the tahoe public beta BTT’s CM has not worked for me at all (blank window, no entries). What is the best way to reset it? I switched back to Alfred’s CM and as no one else is complaining I assume it is just me. I assume I can delete some cache or something that is blocking BTT’s CM from working as it used to.

Thanks, I removed those files while BTT was closed then reopened and still not working. The BBT log shows:

A second restart of BTT and it finally seems to work :star_struck:

@Andreas_Hegenberg , it seems that filtering by app works also partially - meaning even if only part of the app name is in the search it is again showing results from that app:

The blured items are public IPs, so nothing with ams in them, except that they were copied from teams

Here's another example for Outlook:

Non of these items contains the word look.

Is this something you can look into?

Andreas, is this reproducible on your end?

@xidiot it's because of "Outlook"

//edit: ah sorry I only saw the end of the post  This is intentional and allows for searching apps. E.g. you can search Chrome even if the app is called Google Chrome

Is there a way to "workaround" this, because if I need to search/find a string containing "look", and I do not remember anything else in that copied string e.g. it could be "look de07df6603de816baf7dc04b8dc68101" or "12923jdc look", which was copied few days ago, it will be buried down the results since I have copied 100 items (100 strings) from Outlook and finding this item will be almost impossible.

I have changed the behavior slightly in 5.733 (uploading now), it will still do partial matching on app names but only on the separated parts of the app name. For example searching for "Chrome" will still find Google Chrome, but searching for "rome" will not.
