It's usually some faulty app that shows a password input but forgets to deactivate secure input again. Unfortunately there is nothing BTT can do about it. The app it shows is also only a "best guess", there are some apps that can not be detected and for these the system falls back to "login window", "finder" or similar.

How do I correct it so it can be used again?

figure out which app really causes it, then quit it. If it is really a system app that caused it, you might need to logout and back in again.

Just logged out/in again, but still having message regarding finder.

try to relaunch Finder (ctrl+opt+right-click the finder icon, then choose relaunch). If that doesn't help it is not caused by Finder.

What worked: Force quitting finder, restarting BTT.
